The authentic Batik is made either by drawing dots and lines of the resist with a spouted tool called a "canting", or by printing the resist with a copper stamp called a "cap". The more intricate the pattern and the more colors desired, the longer the process takes. Batik tulis is more expensive and highly sought after by collectors. In the past, high quality and fine workmanship of batik became a status symbol of the wearer. Nowadays, printed method has been widely used using modern technology as it has been in mass production.
